THE OPEN WALL

Group Project in Technology Course, 4th Year

2017

A wall is a basic architectural element used for separating the different spaces as well as the inner from the outer space. In this project we plan a wall that would undercut the term of ‘separation'. We chose to work with an approach of “Dynamic Modulation”. This term is expressed in the Open Wall first and foremost by a Box module, composed by surfaces and pillars. This unit composes the wall and allows its dynamic space – regarding view, motion and other uses. The wall’s structure is composed by wooden surfaces and pillars, arranged in an orthogonal system. The solid materiality of the structure is expressed by the wooden components, and contrasts with the knitted fragments that are airy and dynamic. Being open, the wall allows natural light and reflections from its surroundings to spread through the structure. The knitted surfaces create a soft, unique filtering of natural light to the inner spaces of the wall.
